Sticking with the all-American spirit, Charlotte’s Carrie Geisler, the brains behind the bar at the new 5Church restaurant, riffs off a classic bourbon-and-ginger for her “Carolina Blue,” adding a shot of fresh-pressed North Carolina blueberry juice to play off the spicy ginger ale.

  • Jamie Lynch, Marc Jacksina will be like Kanye and Jay Z

5Church manager and head mixologist Mark Childers says he “likes to take a newer look at older cocktails.” Describing himself as a classic traditionalist, Childers creates old-school cocktails with a modern twist.

Once a cursed spot for businesses, the corner of Fifth and Church streets has become so hot, Hollywood actresses (Jessica Alba and Elizabeth Banks, albeit during the DNC) dine there.

Chef Jamie Lynch, inspired by a dish he made at a French restaurant in New York, put fois gras ravioli with kabocha squash coulis on the menu at 5Church. Lynch describes this dish as “more funky American; more down home.”

If director Tim Burton designed a restaurant, it would look something like 5Church. The new Charlotte eatery is a cross between Burton’s darkly whimsical style, a la Edward Scissorhands and Nightmare before Christmas, and home furnishings store Restoration Hardware.

5Church is New American; our idea was basically to offer fine dining-level food in a more casual environment. Yes, you can come dressed up, but you can also wear jeans and a T-shirt.

5Church is located at the corner of 5th and Church streets. Executive chef Jamie Lynch, most recently at Barrington’s, is manning the kitchen, serving up traditional yet technique-driven American cuisine.

From top to bottom, 5Church is not just a restaurant, it’s an escape. If you’re walking in its vicinity, you’ll be immediately drawn in by its curb appeal. The exterior glass windows serve as the backside of the bar, appearing as a beacon to passersby.

5Church and Baku were just named in the top 100 places to eat in the U.S. by Open Table, a popular online resource for restaurant reviews and reservations.

The MAP Management Group that brought you Uptown’s hottest restaurant and bar, 5Church is at it again. It hasn’t even been a full year since 5Church opened their doors and they are already in the process of opening a second restaurant concept called Nan and Byron’s.

When the group behind 5Church finally opened its doors, they delivered with a complex and creative menu, modern and eclectic atmosphere, and an experience that is truly memorable.

It was 11am on a sunny Saturday morning at 5Church restaurant in Uptown Charlotte that we sat down with the band, Matrimony to try to answer this question.

That’s the maxim behind the launch of Charlotte’s most anticipated restaurant in quite some time, 5Church, aptly named for its location on the confluence of 5th Street and Church Street in uptown.
